Aveley Village Christmas Market 2009

The day did not bode well as we started to set up the Christmas Market. But the torrential rain and wind gave way to sun, snow and ice. Yes, we said snow and ice. By the time the Christmas Market was opened by the Mayor of Thurrock, the rain had gone and the sun had come out and about 2,500 people took to the streets. The snow turned Santa's Grotto into a Winter Wonderland and the ice skating rink donated by the Co-operative was packed nearly all day.

Skaters danced to the music of our DJ and the Christmas music performed live by the Aveley & Newham Brass Band and traditional mince pies were given away by Co-op staff. The Guides, WI and Essex Wildlife Trust showed us what they do and a massive range of traditional Christmas food and decorations were on sale. There were even tea cups for the tiny tots to ride in. All in all, a busy day for the Forum members and the stall holders, but well worth it.
